Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (Antara) - President Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, inspected the development of the Raknamo Reservoir construction in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
"I am very pleased with the development of the Raknamo Reservoir construction. I visited here without notice so I could inspect the reservoir," Joko Widodo said here on Saturday.
According to Jokowi, water is the biggest problem in NTT, and all problems will not be resolved if there is no water.
"Therefore, this year the government will build seven reservoirs. We hope that those reservoirs can be completed within 3 years," Jokowi remarked.
In addition, the president pointed out that 100 small reservoirs and 1,000 wells will be built in South Central Timor Regency (TTS).
The president stated that the availability of water will overcome the various problems that exist in NTT, such as drought, food insecurity and poor nutrition.
"The key is in the water. When water is available, we can talk about planting. We can plant corn, rice, sugarcane, and others. Then we can raise cattle," the president noted.
The laying of the first stone for the Raknamo Reservoir development had been held on December 20, 2014.
The Raknamo Reservoir construction is expected to be completed in 2017, in a bid to overcome the clean water issue in NTT.(*)
